The story of Need for Speed Heat is about a former street racer who becomes a mechanic in Palm City while trying to stay on the right side of the law: Lucas A former street racer who works as a mechanic in Palm City and offers his garage as a hangout for new racers. He's loyal to his family, especially his younger sister Ana. Ana Lucas' younger sister who joins the player in forming a new crew to compete for a spot in The League, a group of Palm City's best street racers. Palm City Police The High-Speed Task Force is led by Lt. Frank Mercer, who encourages his officers to break the law and exploit street racing for personal gain. Officer Danny Shaw A loyal lackey of Mercer's who takes bribes and torments racers who resist. Officer Eva Torres A senior officer in the Task Force who works to keep their illegal activities under wraps. The player races to win cash to upgrade their car, which helps them win bigger races with more prize money. Some say the campaign mode in Need for Speed Heat could have been better wrapped up, with too many loose ends and not enough character development.
