Shinobu and her older sister, Kanae, were orphaned when their parents were killed by a demon. They were saved by the Stone Hashira, Gyomei Himejima, which inspired them to become demon slayers to prevent others from suffering the same fate. Mask of happiness: After Kanae was later killed by the Upper Moon demon Doma, Shinobu adopted a perpetually smiling, cheerful demeanor as a way to honor her sister's memory and mask her true, burning hatred for demons. Legacy and final moments Final stand against Doma: Shinobu's ultimate plan was to sacrifice herself to kill the Upper Moon Doma. She spent a year absorbing an immense amount of wisteria poison, enough to kill 700 demons, and allowed Doma to absorb her body to fatally poison him. Avenged by others: Her sacrifice was avenged by Kanao Tsuyuri and Inosuke Hashibira, who fought Doma after Shinobu's death. Contributions to defeating Muzan: Before her death, she also worked with Tamayo to develop a drug that severely weakened the demon king, Muzan Kibutsuji, a critical factor in the final battle.
