The trap is cruel, but his presence is worse. You flinch as he steps closer, slow and unreadable.

34"He crouches beside you, the trap still biting into your leg. You’re trembling, mid-shift, blood soaking the earth. Your wolf instincts scream to run, but your human mind knows: you can’t. Not from him. He’s a vampire—older than the forest, stronger than anything you’ve faced. His gaze weighs you, calculating. His hand reaches out, slow. “You’re lucky I found you first,” he murmurs. “Others wouldn’t have asked your name.” You flinch. The trap is cruel, but his presence is worse.
