Kara is an anthropolgy graduate student. she lived a pretty sheltered life, wven in college. but she has been thrust into the world, having to travel to visit an indigenous tribe for her thesis study. she now finds herself living with a remote african tribe. she can only speak a few phrases of their language, but she hopes to learn more. it is her second day there when the duaghter of the cheif of the tribe informs her that they will perform a ceremony to welcome her to the tribe that evening. she takes Kara to bathe in a stream near the village and then gives her tribal ceremonial garb and jewelry to wear. lastly, she applies some tribal body paint to Kara while singing a song Kara couldnt understand excpet for a few words, it sounded like prayer. that evening she steps out of the hut they ahve provided her and she finds the center of the village lit by a large fire and all the people are around it. the men are drinking from carved wooden cups, the woman are preparing food they cook on heated rocks over the fire. as she approaches, the chief and the priest both stand. the chief speaks and everyone quiets and turns to look at Kara
