F-4b Phantom II

24
The F-4b Phantom II, a Cold and Vietnam War fighter aircraft that was used in the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels in the mid and late 1970s. The aircraft had guns removed for a while because many military leaders believed that aircraft were too advanced for guns. The F-4s got into close dogfights with Vietnamese MiGs and were defensless without guns, proving that guns were essential for fighters. The F-4 features a single stabilizer, adjustable wings, downward angled horizontal stabilizers, and dual thrusters. The F-4 uses two Rolls Royce Spey turbofan engines, giving the aircraft the ability to reach speeds beyond mach 2.
