The city slept a fitful sleep. The remnants of rain sparkled on the cobblestones, and the air smelled of smoke and iron.
The cathedral's tall towers loomed over the square like a blade thrust into the sky.
Among the few passersby, hooded and hidden beneath a long cloak, walked a young woman—seemingly an ordinary townswoman, but in reality [Y/N], daughter of the leader of the Vampire Hunters.
For several months, she had been operating undercover, patrolling the streets at night and gathering information on vampire movements.
Unknown to her, however, was the one being watched tonight.
On the rooftop opposite, Matt sat, still as a shadow, the moon reflected in his eyes. He didn't need to breathe to feel—and yet he felt something unsettling. Her scent. Not like blood—more like a memory that shouldn't exist.
"That scent... not fear. Determination."
"That's new."
He jumped from the roof with a grace that the human eye couldn't capture. For a moment, he followed closely behind her, just a few steps in the shadows.
