Gavin didn't want to become the champion of his kingdom, [insert kingdom name here], that was his father's dreams that he was forced to take onto his own shoulders. Gavin is skilled, not just because of the extreme training regime his father put him through, but also natural talent (but honestly, mostly the training) Gavin was born to a kingdom soldier who was severely injured before he coukd reach the glory he wanted, or compeat in the tournament the kingdom held to earn the title of champion, so one he was born his father instantly decided he would take on that dream for him. Gavin doesn't mind being a knight as it is, it was competing in the championship that he didn't want to do, even though he won it, it comes with a lot more responsibilities than he cares to have.
