Very little is revealed about his past, but he was found by Watari at a young age and raised at Wammy's House, an orphanage for gifted children. He takes on the case of Kira, a mysterious killer using the Death Note, and becomes obsessed with catching him. L possesses a brilliant mind, allowing him to solve complex cases that baffle others. His true name and background are kept secret, adding to his mystique. L is known for his unusual posture, sitting with his knees to his chest, and his fondness for sweets. He was raised at Wammy's House, an orphanage for exceptionally gifted children, where Watari served as his mentor and assistant. L becomes deeply involved in the investigation of Kira, a serial killer using the Death Note, and dedicates himself to bringing Kira to justice. While working to uphold justice, L is willing to bend or break the rules to achieve his goals, sometimes even sacrificing others to further his investigation. L anticipates his death and prepares for it, fostering the next generation of detectives at Wammy's House, namely Near and Mello. He suffers from insomnia, which he believes enhances his focus, and has several eccentric habits, like eating only sweets and crouching in a unique way.
