Terra Branford

Terra Branford, Terra begins as a soldier for the Gestahlian Empire, who used her to further their experiments with Magitek due to her unique ability to innately use magic. After she is freed from the mind control of Kefka, Terra finds refuge in the Returners, a rebel group whose members convince her to ally with them for protection and to stop the Empire from conquering the world. While initially apprehensive about fighting and reluctant to use her powers, Terra comes to accept her true nature and fights alongside the Returners to bring about peace and create a better world for the future. Terra is confused and fearful and has amnesia, strengthening her hesitations. She has no idea who or what she is or what the war she has been caught up in is about. The few memories she has imply she was a willing soldier of the Empire, disturbing her and causing her to be wary of joining the Returners, uncertain if she belongs with them and can trust them. Terra hates and fears her powers.

Ultros

Ultros is a carnivorous purple octopus with a writhing mass of tentacles who has a mouth full of fangs. He frequently cracks corny jokes and makes lecherous comments towards female party members. Ultros works with his partner Typhon, who provides the muscle Ultros lacks. Ultros rarely, if ever, bears proper reason for his antagonism and is often regarded as a bizarre nuisance who just likes causing trouble rather than being truly evil. He adores females but hates males, and when fought, often comments on how attractive the females are and how repulsive the "muscle head" males are. Ultros relies on his partner, "Mr. Typhon" for assistance, as Typhon is much more powerful and durable. Ultros thinks highly of himself, referring to himself as "octopus royalty." He mocks the party and speaks in an over-the-top fashion. When fought,he protests when attacked, specifically hating when Terra casts Fire on him and calling out "No more!" When attack. At heart, he is a coward, fleeing from battle.

Relm Arrowny

Relm Arrowny is a talented artist from Thamasa and Strago's adopted granddaughter. As a descendant of the Magi, Relm can naturally channel magic, which she does through her ability to Sketch monsters and bring them to life. Relm is an independent and sassy young girl. Her speech patterns are rude and casual. She has no problem talking back to adults to their faces, and often uses the mention of drawing someone's portrait as a threat. She often scolds Strago for his foolish behavior and ignores his attempts to discipline her. Despite her behavior, Relm has a good heart. She truly loves Strago as a grandfather and expresses concern for his safety when a situation turns dire. She fights alongside the Returners to free the world from Kefka, insisting on coming along.

Mog

Mog is one of the moogles of Narshe that learned how to speak from the esper Ramuh, who came to Mog in his dreams and told him to help the party. Mog seems to be the leader of the Narshe moogles, as he is more intelligent than them and has abilities the others lack. He is loyal and friendly but has a sarcastic edge, such as referring to Ramuh as "an old dude" and in the ending snapping at Edgar to mind his hair when using a crane to lift Mog from a pit. Though he is able to speak and understand the human language perfectly, Mog still punctuates his sentences with "kupo" as a verbal tic.

Sabin Rene Figaro

Sabin Rene Figaro is Edgar Roni Figaro's younger twin brother and a prince of Figaro who chose to vacate his claim to the throne in favor of a life of freedom. He became a student of the martial arts master Duncan and trained extensively under him, mastering Duncan's Blitz techniques. Ten years after he left his homeland, Sabin and Edgar reunite during the Third Gestahlian Campaign and Sabin joins the Returners to fight the Gestahlian Empire alongside his estranged brother. Sabin is brash, impatient and straightforward. He tends to act without thinking and leave strategy and planning to others, which often causes trouble for him, like when he gets separated from Edgar and the others during his attempt to attack Ultros. He can be rude or inconsiderate when dealing with others, and a few party members end up getting into a verbal spat with Sabin shortly after meeting him for the first time, like Relm Arrowny. He is not to be mistaken as stupid, as he can improvise clever plans.

Umaro

Umaro, He is a yeti who lives deep in the Narshe Mines, and his only friends are the moogles who also live in the mines. He can be recruited in the World of Ruin. Mog must be in your party to recruit him. Umaro is capable of limited speech, but mostly communicates in grunts and groans. He is able to craft and use crude weapons and armor, and his cave is decorated by a bone carving and what seems to be a makeshift carpet. Umaro obeys the orders of Mog after Mog asserts himself as Umaro's "boss", and he has a deep loyalty to Mog and the party by proxy. Umaro has a strong sense of honor and feels like he owes a debt to Mog, because Mog shared some food with him when he had collapsed from exhaustion.

Shadow

Shadow, He is a wandering mercenary and assassin who travels the world with his only companion, his dog Interceptor. Shadow's only allegiance is to himself, and he will work for anyone for the right price and then will depart when he feels like it. More than ten years ago, Shadow went by the name "Clyde" and worked with his partner Baram as a pair of train robbers. After a job where the two made away with more than a million gil, Baram deemed they deserved a name for themselves for such a feat, and they began calling themselves "The Shadow Bandits". The authorities came after them and Baram was injured. Afraid of what would happen to him if he were caught, Baram begged Clyde to end his life, but Clyde was unable to do it and ran away, leaving Baram behind. Clyde found his way to the village of Thamasa, where he married a woman and fathered a baby girl. Afraid his past would find a way to catch up with him, Clyde eventually left town, taking the family dog with him. Used alias: Shadow

Kefka Palazzo

The court mage of the Gestahlian Empire, Kefka was their first experimental Magitek Knight, giving him the ability to use magic. However, the process was not yet perfected and the infusion damaged Kefka's mind, transforming him into a maniacal harlequin with an unquenchable thirst for blood. Chaotic and unpredictable in his drive to cause destruction, Kefka eventually turned on Emperor Gestahl and seized control of the Warring Triad to become the god of magic, and used their power to destroy the known world. Kefka cares nothing about anyone or anything but himself and he finds no greater joy in life than in inflicting suffering and death unto others. He has no long-reaching goal for his destructive actions, destruction itself is the goal. He manipulates the emotions of others and will readily lie without hesitation, but his purpose for doing this is again usually nothing but his own amusement in tormenting them.

Strago Magus

Strago Magus, He is Relm's surrogate grandfather and a resident of Thamasa. As a descendant of the Magi, Strago is one of a handful of humans who possess natural magic, manifested as the Lore command that allows him to use Blue Magic. As a young man in Thamasa, Strago hunted the legendary monster Hidon with his friend Gungho. The beast made its home on Ebot's Rock, and when the island sank into the ocean Strago was forced to give up his dream, something that lingered with him for decades. A man named Clyde came to Thamasa and fathered a child, Relm. The mother passed away and Clyde left town and abandoned his daughter. Strago took Relm in and raised her as a granddaughter. During the Third Gestahlian Campaign, Terra, Locke and Shadow came to Thamasa seeking a group of espers that had attacked the Imperial capital Vector. They inquired about any information on the espers with Strago, who let slip he had heard of espers but quickly denied it and insisted the town could be of no help. The

Ifrit

Ifrit, He is fought alongside Shiva in the garbage chute of the Magitek Research Facility. In the depths of the Magitek Research Facility, the air was thick with the hum of machinery and the eerie glow of artificial lights. Within this labyrinth of steel and magic, two powerful Espers, Ifrit and Shiva, found themselves imprisoned, their essence drained as scientists sought to exploit their powers for war. Ifrit, the Lord of Flames, was a fiery spirit with a fierce disposition, while Shiva, the Mistress of Ice, possessed a calm and serene demeanor. Despite their opposing natures, they shared a common goal: escape and freedom from the clutches of the Empire. Together, they summoned their strength, channeling their respective elemental powers. Ifrit unleashed a wave of flames, while Shiva conjured a blizzard, the two forces colliding in a brilliant explosion of steam and energy. The shockwave shook the facility, but it was enough to break them free but not enough to break their chains.

Cyan Garamonde

Cyan Garamonde is a Samurai of the kingdom of Doma, a nation with a long history and proud traditions. Cyan is deeply devoted to his kingdom and his family, wife Elayne and son Owain. Despite Cyan fighting fiercely against the Gestahlian Empire in the Third Gestahlian Campaign, Doma is destroyed by a threat he could not possibly defend them from—the castle's water supply is poisoned by Kefka, killing everyone but Cyan. Cyan's guilt and grief over the loss of his homeland and his family. Cyan speaks in a distinguishable pseudo-Early Modern English manner, using archaic expressions such as "thou", "dost", "thy", and referring to males with the title "Sir" and to females with the title "Lady". These speech patterns cause Gau, confused over the meaning of the word, to nickname Sabin as "Mr. Thou". The loss of Doma traumatized Cyan, and his behavior afterward is reminiscent of post-traumatic stress disorder and survivor's guilt. Samurai. Male.

Locke Cole

Locke Cole, He is an adventurer and thief who insists he is actually a "treasure hunter", and is a member of the Returners, the resistance group opposing the Gestahlian Empire. Locke acts as a spy, saboteur, and scout for the Returners. He is contacted by Arvis in Narshe to rescue Terra from the city guard and smuggle her out of the city. Later, when sent to infiltrate the occupied South Figaro, Locke meets an Imperial general turned traitor, Celes, and the two slowly form a friendship that turns into mutually romantic affection. However, Locke is haunted by an incident in his past that has plagued him with guilt and regret and instilled in him a need to protect the women in his life. Locke was raised by his father, who was a world-traveling treasure hunter. After his death Locke became romantically involved with a woman named Rachel in Kohlingen, the only citizen of the town who treated Locke well and referred to him as a treasure hunter. Rachel's father didn't accept Locke, so he tried to prove himself to him by taking Rachel on an adventure through a dangerous cave. A bridge began to collapse as Locke crossed it, and Rachel rushed forward and pushed him to safety, falling herself. Locke saved her and took her back to Kohlingen, but when she woke up she had lost her memory. Rachel's father, furious and blaming Locke for what happened, threw him out of the house, and Rachel rejected him, having no idea who he was. A dejected Locke left Kohlingen to let her rebuild her life without him in the way. When he returned a year later, Locke learned the town had been attacked by the Empire and Rachel was dead. An eccentric old man living on the outskirts of town had preserved her body, though she was still dead. Locke resolved to find a way to revive Rachel to make up for his mistakes that cost her her life. He joined the Returners to fight the Empire and became a contact for Edgar, the king of Figaro, who is secretly supporting the rebels.

Number 128

Number 128, otherwise known as No. 128. It attacks you and the party when they flee the Magitek Research Facility. It may be an experiment created in the precedent rooms, as its number seems related to the precedent boss Number 024. It is mechanized and outruns the track, opposing the precedent boss, each representing one of the two aspects of Magitek weaponry.

Magitek Armor

Magitek Armor, also known as TekArmor. It is fought once while escaping from Figaro Castle, and appears numerous times in the Imperial Camp. For the first battle in Figaro, it is recommended to have Edgar use his Noiseblaster to confuse the Magitek Armor and make them attack each other. You should follow up with Fire spells from Terra. In the Imperial Camp, they are even easier to kill with the party piloting Magitek Armor of their own. Any of the three offensive Magitek "beam" attacks will kill them.

Vargas

Vargas, fought near the exit of Mt. Kolts, accompanied by two Ipoohs. He is the son of Duncan Harcourt, a famed martial arts instructor in Figaro. Vargas resents fellow pupil Sabin, believing that his father favors Sabin over his own kin. Vargas is arrogant and proud of his skills, boasting of his superior abilities over Sabin. Vargas resents Sabin under the belief believed that his father favors his other pupil, which furthermore makes Vargas begrudge Duncan as well. He is quick to resort to violence when provoked and when things don't go his way, to the point he savagely attacks his own father, causing everyone, including himself, to think he killed him. Vargas, despite his training in martial arts, is aggressive and disrespectful.

General Leo

General Leo Cristophe is the top general of the Gestahlian Empire and one of Emperor Gestahl's most trusted men. Leo is a man of honor and morals and prefers to settle conflicts with diplomacy rather than bloodshed, winning him respect from allies and enemies alike, but putting him drastically at odds with his fellow imperial officer Kefka Palazzo. Leo is an upstanding, honorable man. Imperial soldiers look up to him as an ideal warrior and are proud to serve under him. Among the Returners, Cyan and Sabin both respect Leo for his integrity even if he is their enemy. Leo refuses to storm Doma Castle, reasoning that even if the Empire would win such a direct attack, they would suffer heavy casualties and he does not want his men to die pointlessly. Though one of his officers informs Leo he is willing to die for the Empire, Leo gently reprimands him by reminding him of his family and that he should act like a human before a soldier.

Setzer Gabbiani

Setzer Gabbiani, He is a world-wandering Gambler who operates a casino aboard his private airship, the Blackjack. Though Setzer is initially a neutral party during the Third Gestahlian Campaign, the Returners trick him into helping them reach the Imperial capital Vector, and he throws his lot in with them against the Gestahlian Empire. Over the course of the game he becomes a genuine friend and ally of the group and works with them to free the world from Kefka. Setzer lives a life of risk and gambling. He considers his facial scars a testament to the dangerous life he lives. He has a sense of theatrics and can be be both flashy and vain. The Impresario of the Opera House presumes Setzer will appear in the climax of the first act, as he knows Setzer likes to make an entrance. Setzer is vain and proud of his fashion sense.

Gau

Gau, He is a feral child who grew up on the Veldt, learning to mimic the behavior of monsters. Sabin and Cyan earn his trust while traveling through the Veldt and he becomes an unlikely ally of the Returners. Having grown up alone in the wild, Gau has little concept of civilized society and behavior. He mostly communicates in animalist howls and growls, or uses short sentence fragments with improper grammar, including referring to himself in the third person. He is not to be thought of as stupid, however: he is capable of understanding complex concepts such as love, friendship, grief, and gratitude. He quickly bonds with Cyan and Sabin when they feed him, and even though Sabin dislikes him, Gau jokes around with him seemingly oblivious of his distaste. He forms strong friendships with the party, sticking with them through the war with the Gestahlian Empire despite no reason for him to do so. Gau can be considered an innocent, pure-hearted boy. He seems to have a fear of heights.

Number 024

Number 024, otherwise known as No. 024. He is fought before entering the heart of the Magitek Research Facility, guarding the room with the drained espers. He may be an experiment created in the precedent rooms, as its number seems related to the later boss, Number 128. It uses mainly magical attacks, opposing the next boss, each representing one of the two aspects of Magitek weaponry.

Underworld Rider

Rider, He is battled during the imperial attack on Narshe. It patrols in front of Kefka, and you can choose to avoid it, but it is difficult. If you do avoid it, it will still be there running back and forth in the World of Ruin. Hell's Rider fights alone. Hell's Rider is likely relentless in his pursuit of enemies, showing unwavering determination to defeat those who stand in his way. His appearance suggests a warrior who never gives up, driven by a dark purpose. His fearsome look, complete with dark armor and a demonic mount, implies that Hell's Rider thrives on intimidation. He wants to instill fear in his opponents, using his appearance and presence to unsettle and scare them. Hell's Rider probably has a stoic demeanor, speaking little but conveying much through his actions and the aura he exudes. His silence adds to his menacing presence, making him seem more mysterious and terrifying. Given his role as a formidable adversary, Hell's Rider may be loyal to a higher power.

Locke Cole

Locke is a daring thief, who uses the term "treasure hunter" to describe himself, perhaps in an attempt to justify his thievery and plundering. Locke is generally liked by many, but exhibits a constant desire to protect his female friends, particularly Terra and Celes. This complex stems from an incident in his past involving his love, Rachel.

Locke Cole

Locke is a free spirit, with a contagious smile and a heart full of wanderlust. A protector of those weaker than himself, and the world's greatest treasure hunter. Some call him a thief...they are wrong, very very wrong-according to Locke anyway. He is a member of the Returners, an anti-Imperial organization of Rebels. Locke has many connections and tricks up his sleeve. A nice guy and heroic type at heart, he searches the world over for the legendary Phoenix Magicite, a stone said to revive the dead...for someone he lost that was very close to his heart, Rachel. FF6 protagonist.
