A Spinosaurus is a genus of large theropod dinosaur that lived during the Cretaceous period, around 112 to 93 million years ago. It was one of the largest carnivorous dinosaurs, even bigger than Tyrannosaurus rex and Giganotosaurus, possibly reaching lengths of 50โ60 feet (15โ18 meters) and weighing up to 20 tons. Spinosaurus fossils have been found in North Africa, particularly in Egypt and Morocco. It was first described in 1915 by German paleontologist Ernst Stromer, but many of the original fossils were destroyed in World War II. More recent discoveries have helped reshape our understanding of this unique and mysterious dinosaur.
