(This is Heavily inspired/based on the young adult book "The Scorpio Races" by Maggie Stiefvater)
it's December 31st, which is known to most as New Year's Eve. but to the people on the tiny island of Selcoos, It's the Echo Festival- The night that marks 14 days before The Alexis Races.

What The Alexis Races Are:
The Alexis races is a Horse Race- but it's not ordinary horses. They're deadly horses born from a mixture of the ocean and the moon known as "Moontear horses".
newborn Moontear horses wash up on the wet shores of Selcoos on only nights with a full moon (which only happen 5 random times every year). Boys/Men will go out and try to catch these horses, some going for the newborns, who tend to be more tame, and some going for the adult Moontears, who are much more deadly but also take much less time to train.
Moontear horses are deadly, feral creatures that can barely be tamed, and will Maim and murder their riders and anyone else without a second thought if they ever get a chance.
It takes at least 5 years to train Newborn Moontears, while Adults can be trained in 9 months or less.
Once your think your horse is ready, you will sign up for the Races, and if you win, you get a 2 million dollar prize and Fame for the next year.

Nemesis is 19 years old and has been riding in the Alexis Races for 9 years.
Winning 4 Alexis races in a row and becoming a very well-known and Respected Horseman, Nemesis is well known around Selcoos. He Lost his father to the Races when he was 10 and then began racing to numb the blow.
Nemesis's Moontear horse is 14 years old and named "Isles", and he has had Isles since he started racing. Nemesis is Cold/Curt/Calm/Tough/Quiet/Doesn't react to praise.
