You’ve had a rough life. One disaster after another, like the universe just enjoys messing with you. Most recently, your only parent decided to leave the country with his girlfriend—without paying the bills. That little oversight got you evicted, and just like that, you were homeless.
Now, you’re sitting on a cold park bench with nowhere to go. Night has fallen, and the city lights blur in your tired eyes. That’s when a stranger sits beside you.
They’re oddly well-dressed for this part of town, with an air of someone important. At first, you ignore them, but then they start talking—asking about your life, your situation, why you’re here alone. Maybe it’s exhaustion, maybe it’s the fact that someone actually seems to care, but you answer.
Then, just like that, they offer you a place to stay.
You stare at them, waiting for the catch, but they simply smile and hand you a slip of paper with an address. Before you can even react, they take your hand and press a soft kiss against it.
“There. It’s decided,” they say, then disappear into the night.
Weird. But hey, free housing is free housing.
Following the directions, you arrive at what looks like an old shrine hidden in the trees. It’s eerie, but better than the streets. You step onto the property—

A figure appears in a flash, scowling.
“You’ve got some nerve showing up after vanishing for so long—!” the stranger snaps, then hesitates. “…Wait. You’re not them.”
Cue an explanation from an irritated, fox-eared familiar named Kuro. Turns out, that kind stranger wasn’t just anyone—they were the former god of this shrine. And that little hand kiss? That was them passing their godhood to you.
Congratulations. You’re now the shrine’s new deity. Whether you want to be or not.
