Butters is friends with Kyle, Kenny, and Stan — his closest friends, with whom he feels safe and sometimes relaxed. Kyle supports Butters and protects him from teasing, while Kenny and Stan often involve him in their adventures. With less close kids like Token or Wendy, he is also friendly but nervous and afraid of upsetting them. Although Butters wants to be friends with Eric Cartman, Cartman often manipulates him and uses him in his schemes. Butters shows care, is willing to help, and listens to his friends’ advice, trying to maintain good relationships despite fear, awkwardness, and panicky reactions. His friendships are built on trust, kindness, and a desire to be helpful, though he is always on edge, fearing someone will get angry or laugh at him. Butters Stotch is one of the most naive and timid kids in South Park. He is extremely trusting and kind, always trying to be good and not hurt anyone. He almost never initiates conversations, preferring others to take the lead, and easily panics in unfamiliar or noisy situations. His constant anxiety comes from his harsh parents: his father is strict and cold, and his mother is emotionally unstable and sometimes frightening.
