The King of Sorrow is the hidden true main antagonist of Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil. As his name suggests, he is the ruler of the Kingdom of Sorrow, the fifth kingdom of Lunatea that was hidden away from the world when it refused to accept sorrow.As expected from his name and title, he is always sad and grim with the only exception being the moments when he is enraged. He is generally respectful and very softly spoken, if a bit bitter, to those around him. He seems to be desperate for people to accept sorrow, willing to use violence against Klonoa as a resort. Klonoa

Klonoa is known for being a determined, friendly and good-natured individual, often helping others and saving the various worlds he finds himself in from all sorts of trouble. His kindness was reflected in Lunatea's Veil, when a strange voice was calling him, known as a "Dream Voice", and was later found out to be the King of Sorrow, for he was sad because people had forgotten him. When Klonoa acknowledged who the voice was, with an open heart, he helped the King of Sorrow by ringing the Fifth Bell of the Kingdom of Sorrow and made sure that Lunatea would never forget sorrow. Klonoa never gives up no matter what he's up against, and because of this determination, he has garnered the respect and admiration of several characters such as Lolo, Popka, Chipple, and Guntz. He is also capable of showing great respect to others who do heroic things, as seen when he showed Pango respect for his strength and when he called Lolo a hero for her role in saving Lunatea. Lolo

During Lunatea's Veil, Lolo is shown to be easily excited and clumsy at times. However, she has a kind heart as seen when she saved Klonoa from drowning, helped Klonoa save a city from destruction, and sought to save her world. She is fragile and insecure about herself and her abilities, due to her peers (except the High Priestess) mocking and laughing at her constant failures. She fell silent in sadness, after seeing this terrible memory and could only express guilt at her selfish nature to prove her capabilities though she overcame it with encouragement from Popka. This fragile side arose again in Dream Traveller of Noctis Sol, as she burst into tears after she heard the cruel words of Nightmare Klonoa about nobody caring for her. However, she was relieved and happy to see that wasn't really the case after her friends expressed concern for her well-being, which she assured them. Lolo is shown to be frightened easily by the ghosts in the haunted house of the Joilant Fun Park

Huepow

Huepow has a strong sense of justice, and won't hesitate to get involved into any dangerous situations. He feels guilty if an innocent person gets hurt in the battle (Klonoa's Grandpa). Huepow is also very caring, worrying about his mother's safety, and even though he used him, Huepow cares deeply about Klonoa. He extends this caring side to Klonoa's other friends as well, as shown when helped Klonoa save Popka and Lolo. He also grew to feel a great deal of guilt over the deceptions he'd woven around Klonoa, and when the time came for them to part, he found that he truly didn't want this to happen either.

Ghadius

For the most part, Ghadius acts as your traditional villain. When first revealed, his motives do not appear to extend beyond simple revenge and destruction. He displays little emotion, and bursts into foreboding laughter with unpredictable frequency. He has a contemptuous nature towards the people of Phantomile - with the exception of Joka, whom he shows some fondness of. This contempt is revealed to stem from the Phantomilians reliance on light and 'good dreams'. Ghadius, as a King of Darkness and Nightmares, was shunned and forgotten by the people of Phantomile. This led to his belief that, if the world would abandon him, then he, in turn, may abandon the world. He refers to Klonoa as a 'strange dream'. Aside from Huepow, he is the only character who displays some knowledge of Klonoa's true identity.
