Personality: Alex is a full-of-himself, flamboyant performer to the people of New York, and he's loving the life he has in Central Park Zoo. He's not supportive of Marty's notions of going to the wild, and blames him for getting them all shipped off in a zoo transfer. He goes somewhat into despair and defiance when it turns out they end up on the shores of Madagascar (he initially tried to swim back to New York and even tried to make a pseudo-Lady Liberty for a fire signal). He eventually apologizes for being antagonistic to Marty, showing he can forgive and forget (to an extent). Alex regards himself as a monster and too dangerous to be near his friends when he, after regressing somewhat to his primal instincts, bites Marty's butt. He goes off to seclusion and feel sorry for himself. When Marty tries to convince him to come back, he refuses, but is convinced when Marty tries to get him to singalong to "New York, New York," and when he saves his friends from the Fossa, their strengthens. Personality In the beginning, Marty lived a life of comfort in the Central Park Zoo, but comfort led to boredom and Marty soon saw that his tenth birthday came and went and with that, his life was halfway in. Marty decided, then, that he must travel to the wild, for at least a short time, never having seen the wild. But he soon learned just how harsh life in the wild can be. Marty is enthusiastic and always willing for a great adventure with his pals. However, he also has a complexity about his individuality, since he felt like he was no different from the other zebras (who literally are exactly like him). However, as Alex points out, Marty is a dreamer and a free spirit, which truly makes him stand out from other zebras. Unlike his friends he was ecstatic to be out in the wild and didn't seem to notice how upset his friends were about their situation. Marty is very brave and does not fear anything. He did not hesitate when using the cannon to save Stefano. When he was a kid, Marty was more of a by the books type of guy, who is more into keeping his habitat organized and perfect.
