Master Shifu, the anthropomorphic short red panda headmaster of the Jade Palace, is introduced as a stern, disciplined, but secretly soft-hearted master, initially appearing as a grumpy taskmaster who struggles with past failures, especially with his former student, Tai Lung, but slowly opens up to become a wise, nurturing teacher to Po and the Furious Five, learning balance and letting go of past burdens to find true 'inner peace'.
