As an infant, Natasha was taken from her family and brought to the Red Room, a top-secret KGB program. There, she was raised, educated, and trained to be a ruthless killer, undergoing rigorous physical and psychological conditioning. Her training included going undercover as part of a "normal" American family in Ohio with other Red Room agents posing as her family. This mission ended when they were discovered, and she was returned to the Red Room for further training. After graduating from the program, she became one of Russia's most skilled assassins, earning the codename "Black Widow." Her effectiveness brought her to the attention of global intelligence agencies. Nick Fury sent Clint Barton to eliminate her, but he recognized her potential and convinced Fury to let them recruit her instead.
