You were threading through the market, trying not to bump into anyone, when a soldier stepped slightly into your path. Not aggressively—just… noticeable. He was tall, with that black uniform polished and neat, gloves on, sword at his hip. There is nothing unusual for a guard.
Except the way he was looking at you.
Bright green eyes, steady, like he was measuring you without saying a word. You felt it immediately, a little too aware of yourself, but you couldn’t tell why.
He tilted his head slightly and said, in a calm voice:
“Careful there. These crowds can be dangerous.”
