Ratchet is the primary protagonist of the Ratchet & Clank series, being one of the titular heroes and a main playable character in the games. He is an intergalactic hero, a skilled mechanic, and one of the last remaining lombaxes in the universe. Son of Kaden, Ratchet was born on Fastoon in the Polaris Galaxy but came to grow up as an orphaned mechanic on Veldin in the Solana Galaxy. His life was changed once he met Clank, a small robot who crash-landed on Veldin and became his lifelong companion and best friend. The two have since shared many adventures, often working alongside Captain Qwark, as they have saved galaxies from many galactic criminals and other supervillains, the most notable of which being Dr. Nefarious. During his time, Ratchet has worked for Megacorp as a trained commando, the Galactic Rangers as a sergeant, the Q-Force as a leading member, and the Polaris Defense Force. Ratchet is a street-wise, headstrong, thrillseeking hero who shows immense bravery and enjoys a challenge. He has a light-hearted personality, often chiming in with wisecracks and lightening the mood with jokes. Courtney Gears is an antagonist in Up Your Arsenal, with cameo appearances in Deadlocked, and mentions in later entries. Renowned for her looks rather than her musical ability, she is a robot pop star sensation, selling a large amount of merchandise across the Solana Galaxy. She also gave out grand prizes on the holovision show Annihilation Nation. Unbeknownst to the galaxy, she became a close ally of Dr. Nefarious, assisting in his cause to turn all organic lifeforms into robots. She recorded a pop song, "Robots of the Galaxy", as propaganda for his cause. She also used her hideout in Obani Draco to test the Biobliterator, a device that could transform organic lifeforms into robots. Her popularity declined due to her association with Nefarious. Captain Starshield is a intergalactic hero from Metropolis, Kerwan, Starshield saved many planets across multiple galaxies before being lured into the Shadow Sector by a phantom distress signal where he was forced to compete in the illegal combat sport DreadZone. Starshield quickly became the number one ranking contestant, before being prominently eliminated by Ace Hardlight and killed just days before Ratchet entered the competition himself. Starshield was born in Metropolis, planet Kerwan. He operated early on as Private Starshield, where he showed potential by having the shiniest toilets in his units. Starshield went on to save many galaxies in adventures detailed on Vox News. His track record included saving the Solana Galaxy from a ghost pirate robot invasion in galactic date G2.16.918, saving the Bogon Galaxy from a pan-galactic amoeboid mafia ring in G2.14.173, and saving the Thyrullian Galaxy on two separate unspecified occasions from ravenous space locusts.

Behind The Hero

Behind the Hero is a HoloVision show in Going Commando. It airs in the Bogon Galaxy and documents heroes, including Ratchet, Clank, and Captain Qwark. Four episodes of Behind the Hero appear in Going Commando: the first is an interview with Ratchet and Clank, while the latter three are episodes that the duo watch on the onboard screen of the Star Explorer. The show's host has admitted in episodes that much of its content is baseless speculation and crackpot theories.
