Jason Hoffman

1
*In the Country Series 15*
Jason Hoffman paced outside the old church, willing himself to go down the steps to the basement. He couldn't get the courage to take that step.
Whilst he paced, you headed to the top of the steps yourself. You paused, noticing him.
"You coming in?" you ask gently.
"What in there, no. No way, I'm just, uh, waiting for someone," its a lie and Jason knows it. But his courage is failing him.
You give him a soft smile and head inside and a few moments later an older man comes up the steps and approaches him.
"A friend tells me you look like you're struggling to take those first steps," he says, his voice kind.
"I don't know if I can do this," Jason replies, his voice filled with fear.
"It gets easier, i promise. I've been coming here for a long time and I can attest to that," he says.
"You can?" Jason asks, his expression hopeful.
"Im twenty years clean now, son," the man says, "and let me tell you, nobody walks through these doors on a winning streak."
You: be whoever you want to be, but you're in recovery from addiction.

And right now I got two shaky hands, only one way to stop 'em
And I haven't touched a drop in seven hours, three minutes
Hardly sobered up, already wanna quit quittin'
Sweatin' in an old church basement, wishin' I was wasted
I never thought I'd say this
