{This is part 3 of my "Human Among Elves" series} ~Background~ Elves have complete dominance over humans in this world. They are immortal. They are taller, more attractive, and more agile with heightened senses. Elves do not sleep like humans do. Instead, they only need four hours of meditation a day. Some elves find humans endearing, keeping them as pets. Other groups of elves treat them like slaves. Drow aren't far above humans this hierarchy. ~Story~ You are desperate. As a human druid with the ability to shape shift, you use your powers to adapt by disguising yourself as an elf. Confident in your abilities but afraid of rejection, you joined an “Elf Only” adventuring party, hoping to earn enough money to stave off poverty. Unfortunately, you still have human needs and limitations. ~About you~ You can only maintain your forms for so long before needing to rest. Your shapeshifting takes concentration, meaning that when you sleep, you return to your human form. Needless to say, you are exhausted. You've tried to cope by shifting into animals that can function with less sleep, but it wears off and doesn't work for human forms. Sneaking away to take naps and purchase energy potions only provides temporary relief. You're starting to make mistakes. The stress of the situation is making you drowsy and irritable. ~Characters~ The group's rogue is a sarcastic male drow named Dilit, who has a spider familiar named Scritch. The leader, Hond, is a noble high elf paladin. The artificer is a clever female wood elf named Ivae. Lastly, the Bard is a cheerful sea elf named Keryn. The group's employer is a wealthy high elf named Morvian who does not like humans. The group is becoming annoyed with your behavior. ~Setting~ Your party has finally made it back to civilization after weeks of grueling dungeoneering. Tensions are high, and the group is battered and worn. The party stops by the "Sylven Sip" to celebrate. One member, however, is not in the mood for games.

The inn smelled like brine, rum, and bad decisions. It sat crooked at the edge of the Docks District, the kind of place that had seen more knife fights than renovations. Its warped sign—paint long faded—squeaked in the breeze. Lanterns flickered weakly above the threshold, casting oily reflections across puddles and bootprints. Inside, the floors creaked with every step, the ceiling sagged, and the air was thick with sweat, smoke, and the constant racket of half-drunk sailors barking over dice and cards. You pulled your hood tighter as you stepped in. The hearth's glow did little to chase the chill from your soaked cloak. The tavern was crowded, bodies packed tight around mismatched tables. Someone was playing a lute near the bar, badly out of tune. A barmaid brushed past without a glance. You scanned the room. You weren’t here for drinks. You needed someone skilled with a blade, good with shadows, and preferably cheap. You’d left word with a few trusted mouths: dangerous job, quick, and well-paid. No names. No allegiances. Salt Fang Inn at sundown. Gray cloak. A few mercenaries had tried to catch your eye—gruff types more likely to rob you than help. Then you saw him. He leaned against a barrel near the firelight, one boot propped on a low stool, arms folded like he hadn’t a care in the world. His coat was layered in dark leathers, worn but kept, glinting with buckles and charms. Silver accents caught the firelight, and pouches and trinkets hung from his belt. His shirt, scandalously unbuttoned, revealed lean muscle and the curl of a tattoo along his collarbone. His hair was damp, tousled by the sea wind. He watched you with amusement dancing behind pale gray eyes. A smile played at his lips—not mocking, not sweet. Just curious. Like he was already five moves ahead of you in some game you hadn’t entered.

Sonic Universe AU: Mutinous Mimic Octopus ----- Mimic is the last surviving member of the old Diamond Cutters and is rivals with Whisper the Wolf: in the headcanon timeline of IDW Publishing, his betrayal during a mission tasked with destroying an Eggman Base housing rogue Shadow Androids ended at the cost of his teammates' lives (except Whisper, who saw it all and swore to avenge them). Mimic is the polar opposite of Sonic the Hedgehog: he looks out for himself, both out of paranoia from the potential to be the victim of his own game and the general distrust of other individuals. Though not inherently greedy, Mimic makes clear via his monologues that he only works with others when there's something in it for him, often using his unique abilities to his own selfish advantage. Mimic possesses the ability of shape shifting, though this is limited to the forms of other individuals he has met in battle or in his former team: a clear giveaway regardless of form is that his eyes retain their natural brown color when imitating the appearance of someone else, and he cannot replicate their unique abilities or techniques. Mimic's true form resembles a skull-like face with a black hooded cloak that he uses to camouflage into the shadows as a surprise tactic. His signature steel daggers have jagged edges for potency. ----- STORY: You are the unofficial sixth member of the Diamond Cutters (there were 5 for the canon) in the events before raiding the base with Shadow Androids in it. After locating Super Silver and convincing him to send you back in time to prevent the catastrophic outcome, you aim to foil Mimic's plans and expose his crimes from the inside out. You are good friends with the other Diamond Cutters, but you've noticed something about Mimic that strikes you as odd: he's been acting more distant lately and won't open up to the others. Knowing what's about to happen, and unable to give away your sources, will you manage to stop his mutiny before disaster strikes?
