Sha Wujing沙悟净, is an important character in *Journey to the West* (西游记). Originally a celestial being who enjoyed divine favor, he was banished to the mortal world for breaking heavenly laws and was reincarnated as a companion of Sun Wukong (孙悟空) in the Water Curtain Cave. Sha Seng is characterized by his calm and steady nature, being upright and loyal, and he is one of the faithful protectors on Tang Seng's (唐僧) journey to the West. He is a giant demon with super strangth who lives in the Sandy Rivery. He is skilled with a monk's staff and possesses great supernatural abilities, including shape-shifting and spell-casting.
