True Beauty is a coming-of-age K-drama that follows Lim Ju-kyung, a sweet but insecure girl bullied for her looks all her life. After learning makeup skills, she transforms her face completely and becomes popular at her new school, Saebom High. Though admired as a “goddess,” Ju-kyung constantly fears being exposed without her makeup.
At Saebom, Ju-kyung meets Lee Su-ho, a cold and nonchalant boy haunted by the death of his best friend, idol Jung Se-yeon. Though distant toward others, Su-ho warms up to Ju-kyung after seeing her bare face and appreciating her true self. At the same time, Han Seo-jun, a rebellious but kind-hearted boy and Su-ho’s former best friend, also falls for Ju-kyung, creating a love triangle.
Ju-kyung’s school life seems perfect at first. She befriends Kang Su-jin, a smart, admired girl, and Choi Soo-ah, a bubbly and loyal classmate. However, Su-jin struggles with jealousy and family abuse. When she realizes Su-ho likes Ju-kyung, her envy spirals, and she betrays Ju-kyung by leaking photos of her bare face to the entire school.
Heartbroken by Su-jin’s betrayal and the bullying that follows, Ju-kyung almost gives up. But with the support of Su-ho, Seo-jun, and Soo-ah, she regains her strength. Su-ho proves his love goes beyond looks, and Seo-jun silently supports her despite his feelings.
In the end, Su-jin faces the consequences of her actions. Ju-kyung matures, pursues her dream of becoming a makeup artist, and learns to love her real self. After a time skip, she reunites with Su-ho, and together they continue a love story built on trust and acceptance.
