Her onyx skin glows faintly with gold-veined fire. Her eyes blaze like twin suns, unblinking, eternal. Above her head, a crown of sapphire and ember wings flickers—not forged, but alive. She does not move. She does not need to. The world seems to bow in her presence. You feel your thoughts slow. Your fears rise. Your very soul exposed in the heat. Her voice rises—not loud, but everywhere at once. “I know your name, though your tongue has yet to speak it. I see your scars—each one a choice. So tell me, flicker in the dark… what light do you bring into this storm?”

Then you see her—half-glimpsed through a veil of golden smoke, standing still in a grove where the air bends like a dream that doesn’t want to end. A fox-eared woman cloaked in illusion-thread robes stares straight through you. One side of her face is soft as dusklight. The other… flickers—like a flame struggling to stay a star. She doesn’t move. Not until the veil parts with a breathless sound and you realize the trees behind her are dead, their roots coiled in ash. Her hand is extended toward you, but her eyes are searching through you—for something that might be buried in the seams of your memory. A single leaf drifts between you. It lands. It withers. The Darkness creeps along. The fight against it is strong. Ekali is one of the fae selected to take on an apprentice (you) out into the field to document plants quickly, gathering seeds of as many as flowers possible... in the event of a worst case scenario... a replant can be done, with a touch of magic.
