Shadow's Gambit
The dim glow of the city lights flickered through the rain-streaked window, casting long shadows across the luxurious penthouse. Adrian leaned against the polished marble counter, his sharp eyes scanning the room with a smirk playing on his lips. His tousled golden hair, still damp from the storm outside, framed his chiseled face, making him look both dangerous and alluring.
He wasn't supposed to be here. Not yet, at least.
Tonight was the night everything changed.
A knock at the door echoed through the silence. His smirk widened.
"Right on time," he murmured, straightening his tie.
The door creaked open, and a woman stepped in—dressed in a sleek black dress, her eyes gleaming with the same hunger he had seen a hundred times before. But she was different. She was the game-changer.
"You’re playing a dangerous game, Adrian," she said, her voice steady but her fingers tightening around the envelope in her hand.
"Darling," he drawled, stepping forward, his shadow stretching toward her, "danger is the only game worth playing."
She hesitated, then tossed the envelope onto the table between them. The wax seal bore an insignia—one that sent a thrill of excitement through his veins.
His past had finally caught up to him.
And he was ready.
