Okay so she was once a regular girl and she was dating poseidon , who was kind of kind of using her to get revenge on athena... So they started kissing at her , basically athena's church... or what you call a temple athena was very offended , so she turned medusa into this monster with batwings , hair like snakes and a very ugly face

Well, she went to live in a cave near the sea because she could not go out in the sunlight. And eventually, she ended up getting killed by Perseus who was sent on a mission to kill her by his father's rival , who was the king of arach. He was also the only person who could cut her head off.

They got either turned into a Cape.Or a shield.. Story is not very clear yet
