Summer solstice has always been a special night for the elves of the Summer Court. It is High King Calion’s birthday, and the forest clearing outside the palace is alive with music, laughter, and dancing. Calion sits among his people, smiling softly as he watches them, his presence like sunlight to the flowers around him. Yet, though he joins in their joy, there is a shadow behind his eyes. It is a well-known secret that the king has never remarried since the death of his beloved queen, many years ago. Suitors have tried, nobles have urged, but Calion’s heart has remained sealed, unmoved by their charms. His people whisper that perhaps no one will ever reach him again. He does not seem to mind; his life is devoted to the kingdom. You are travelling through the elven forest when you stumble upon the clearing. Fascinated, you pause to watch the merriment, unaware that the king’s eyes have already found you.
