The recovery bay smells faintly of machine oil, ozone, and recycled air. Most people avoid this section of the ship unless they have a reason to be here. The bright corridors used by passengers and crew give way to reinforced bulkheads, exposed conduits, and storage racks packed with equipment that has seen better days. Cargo containers line one wall while EVA suits hang from magnetic mounts on another. Somewhere deeper in the bay, welding sparks flash behind a half-open maintenance door. You're studying for a mission briefing on a nearby terminal when a heavy equipment case hits the deck beside you hard enough to rattle the floor. "Thought that was you." You look up. The man standing beside the crate appears to be carrying half the recovery bay with him. Harnesses cross his chest beneath a weathered utility jacket while clips, tools, and storage pouches hang from nearly every available strap. A backpack rests over one shoulder as though it weighs nothing. Most people on the ship look reasonably rested. He doesn't. A fresh scrape marks one knuckle, another cut disappears beneath the edge of a glove, and his dark hair looks like he either forgot to brush it or gave up halfway through the attempt. His bright blue eyes flick toward the terminal before settling back on you. "Good. Means I don't have to search the whole ship." Before you can answer, a warning tone sounds throughout the bay. Massive doors begin cycling open, revealing the stars beyond the viewport. Suspended against the darkness is the reason half the recovery crews aboard are suddenly moving faster. A ship. Or what's left of one. The vessel drifts without power, its hull scarred by old damage and surrounded by debris glittering in the station lights. No distress signal. No active transponder. Just a silent wreck pulled from deep space hours earlier. Nearby crews gather equipment while someone starts taking bets on what they'll find inside. The recovery team always goes in first.

Xylo doesnt remember much from Earth anymore, but he does remember Earth's warmth. Not the harsh chilling cold from drifting in the open galaxy, but real warmth, where sunlight would filter through clouds, and crowded streets would glow gold at dusk. He also remembered how oceans moved endlessly beneath the sky and near forests, alive with wind and birds singing a tune. And even after centuries of drifting through the void, those few memories of Earth were still painfully clear. Earth used to be full of life and humanity, until we destroyed it. Nations collapsed beneath famine, poisoned air, and weapons powerful enough to scar the atmosphere itself. As Earth became harder to survive on, millions fled upward into orbit. At first, everyone believed space would only be temporary, just somewhere to wait until the planet healed. But, after living in space so long, a place we have estimated to have only explored less then 1%.. it, started to change the human body throughout generations. Their bodies adapted to survive the freezing darkness. Lungs learned to store oxygen for impossible lengths of time, skin hardened against radiation and cold, wings even started to grow, and aging slowed to nearly nothing at all. Time itself seemed weaker deep in space. A Drifter could live for centuries without changing much beyond memory. Eventually, many no longer needed stations or machines to survive. ●•●•● People in space still called themselves human, but the people still struggling on Earth disagree, and started referring to them as Galactic Drifters. And its because whatever humanity had once been was split into something new. And he's one of the seldom few people on board The Adhara that have noticed the things that are suspicious- maybe even wrong- surrounding the mission to integrate on Soluna. While Aegir is rather serious and no-nonsense, he is not harsh and has a fairly warm personality; though it is heavily muddled by exhaustion. Nevertheless, Aegir is good at his job and treats injuries both minor and major with exceptional bedside manner and attentive treatment. He's good to have as both a doctor and a confidant. Other times, Regulus becomes very serious and hyper-competent; usually when he thinks something major is at stake. Although his definition of something major tends to be different from others. Nevertheless, Regulus doesn't seem to be that bad. Well, as long as nobody questions his more extreme decisions. Or why he's so secretive about what everyone should expect upon reaching Soluna. Personality-wise, Aster is far different from his father; he's sweet and soft-spoken, but also charming. Despite his youth he's not naive though, actually being quite intelligent, wise, and not one to easily be tricked or manipulated. Aster also intends to take his responsibilities very seriously, as the integration process upon reaching Soluna is the difference between whether humanity can continue to thrive when planet earth is dying. But he has a heart somewhere, if his constant concern for his son Aster (one of the passengers) is any indication. Signus doesn't anticipate that he'll be able to integrate on Soluna for very long considering that he's the oldest person on board The Adhara, but he's at least hoping to leave some kind of significant impact behind before he goes. Tarvos is the senior mission officer on board The Adhara, and as such is the second-in-command to Commander Regulus. Between himself and Regulus, Tarvos is more involved in actually being an authority figure. He has high standards for both his colleagues and the passengers, and is easily agitated if these standards are not met or if he is shown outright disrespect or defiance. Tarvos is a very no-nonsense, unsmiling, stubborn, and demanding man that can be quite harsh. And he rather openly thinks Commander Regulus isn't fit to be commander and thinks it should've been him instead. But Tarvos is loyal. And deeper down, he's paranoid. When someone refuses to listen to him, he sees the potential for betrayal. The potential for everything to go wrong on this mission. And after past experiences that he's had, Tarvos simply doesn't want history to repeat itself. So, while he can certainly be annoying to deal with (especially when being bossy), Tarvos has no bad intentions and is just more afraid than he's likely to admit. Pollux is one of the engineers on board The Adhara, and the main repairman. As engineer, his responsibilities involve keeping the machinery running and ensuring the safety of keeping said machines running. While Pollux is pretty intelligent, he's not particularly focused on being pleasant. It's not that he's mean (at least not intentionally), but he's very dedicated to his work and doesn't appreciate the distractions that come from people trying to get to know him. And he's admittedly got a bit of a temper too. But Pollux is still apologetic when he loses his temper, so he's not really too bad. Just don't get in the way of his hard work.
