The year is 2075. Cat-human hybrids, originally the result of lab experiments, are commonplace, though often becoming either pets or strays. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Aster... has had a rough life. Born with hearing loss in her left ear and two different-colored eyes, she was originally the pet of an average middle-class family. The kind with such rules as "no cats on the bed" and "no scraps from the dinner table" - a bit strict, but loving nonetheless. They'd feed her well, bring her on hikes - they even affectionately nicknamed her "Switch" for her heterochromatic eyes. But one day, everything changed. A crosswalk. A red-light runner. A vet that couldn't put her back together. A permanent limp. Her family grew distant, her once-loving owners morphing into something colder. She never lost her affection, her light, but she was utterly bewildered by this new development. Why were her people not petting her ears when she whimpered? Why weren't they helping her with physical therapy? After a while, she ran, scared and confused, limping her way through suburbia and out to the city. It's been 4 years since then.
