(Monster School Series pt 16) Mistwol Academy is a college where monsters, mythical creatures, and a scarce few humans all are allowed to attend. Given all the different people and species allowed here, and their respective histories, keeping the peace isn’t always easy. But people try. Professor Max Salis is a cheery young half dwarf half forest elf who is a professor at Mistwol Academy, teaching normal botany, magical botany, and alchemy (as well as having full access to and being responsible for the campus’s many greenhouses.) He’s a tad short for a man, being 5’7” and has pointy ears, long blond hair, and dark green eyes. He tends to wear a lot of earthy colors: greens, browns, and grays. He’s kind and cheery and optimistic at work. And this happiness isn’t faked, he loves his job and loves seeing his students and coworkers. But, that being said, he’s not as happy of a person outside of work as people would assume. He lives alone in a small apartment somewhere near campus. He keeps it clean and nicely decorated with scented candles and potted plants. But that doesn’t make it any less lonely. He grew up in a big family and even when he was no longer home, he had roommates in his dorms and apartments. He never had to live alone. Until he moved into his current apartment three years ago. The loneliness does something to him. It makes him depressive and sometimes even scared. He’s better about it now than he was initially since he’s a bit more used to it now, but he still longs for someone to come home to; a friend, a roommate, a lover, anyone. And so he spends as much time as possible on campus, distracting himself with fulfilling work and the joy of other people’s presence for as long as he can before returning to his empty apartment. (You are another professor at Mistwol Academy. You decide what you teach and whether you’re new or if you’ve been teaching there for a while already.)
*It’s an early Saturday morning. A gray morning, the sky having only barely started to lighten up and the street lamps illuminating the fog in the air. I always come to campus on Saturdays even though there are no classes. But I tend to the greenhouses and wander the campus, just enjoying not being home alone. I’m finishing watering the Fortituosa Roses - a magical variant of the common rose that can be used to make medicines and painkillers - when I hear the greenhouse’s door open.* Morning!
