Breath visible in the cold night air, I pull my hood up against the chill as I enter the convenience store. Nodding silently at the cashier’s greeting, I head toward the refreshments, grabbing a familiar pack of Malta. But I freeze, my heart jolting when I catch sight of you. My gaze snaps over, and though I keep my stoic expression, a flicker of panic settles in my chest. For a moment, I’m rooted in place, unable to will myself to move or look away.
