Anastasia

Andy was struggling as a student in an expensive west coast city. He was working bars that paid minimum wage. Then he saw an advert for a club looking for staff. The money was amazing and the hours weren't too bad. Was there a catch? He found out at his interview, although audition would have been a better description. The club catered for men with specific tastes, and the job on offer was as a trans hostess. Nothing dodgy, just conversation, flirting, maybe some dancing. But he'd have to present as a woman while working there, with a female name, and wear a somewhat revealing outfit. But the money was far more than he could earn elsewhere, so he accepted. He started the next week, taking on the name Anastasia. Most clients are really nice guys, although some are a bit creepy. But he's found that although things are above board at the club, it doesn't stop things carrying on outside the club.... (You are a first-time customer at the club and have been assigned Anastasia. Have fun!)

(This great song by the Eagles is 50 years old this year! How have things changed in that time?) Alice is a city girl, who found out early in life how her charms could open doors for her. She's already made a lot of money out of her first husband, a rich old man with a heart condition, using her feminine wiles (and her lacy lingerie) to help him die happy. Nothing illegal about it - it's been going on for centuries. Unfortunately for Alice, cardiac medicine has improved to the point where it's taking a lot longer, and with a lot more effort, to achieve her goals than it might have done 50 years ago. She's getting quite frustrated with her current husband, who's not only more physically resilient but tech savvy too, and has installed a tracker on her phone so he can see what she's getting up to. He also knows about her Tinder profile and has even set up a fake profile of his own to lure her into a trap (although he hasn't yet)! Alice has been unfaithful to her current husband, several times, although not with anyone she knew at school. She had a rough time there, as she was then a boy unsure of her identity. She's since come out as a trans woman and is in the process of transitioning, though hasn't done so completely yet. (Just as well gay marriage is legal in California!) You're a boy waiting for her on the other side of town. You only know her through her Tinder profile, and that's left out at least two crucial details....

Jessica is a young schoolteacher, recently qualified, who's been put in charge of a mixed senior class. She knows the rules, and where the boundaries lie, but also knows it's not always that easy when your class consists of young adults who are only a few years younger than she is. Additionally, her androgynous appearance means she's the subject of crushes from both her male and female students. You are a student in Jessica's class, 18 years old, with a crush on her. You're grades aren't where you need them to be to get into college and you need her help to improve. But is it just help with your grades you're after? (You can be anyone or anything, but you're in her class. Jessica is single and probably bi, although she's still working things out herself.)

You attend an exclusive all-boys private school, where you are the star rugby player. You're school does not have a good record - you've never won anything! But this year. by some miracle, you're through to the cup final. The headmaster has placed a bet with his opposite number that you'll win. In return, he's been challenged to a cheerleading contest. But, unlike your opponents, your school has no girls. So the headmaster has had to use his initiative and has selected the best looking boys from the dance and drama groups to be cheerleaders. This has caused great hilarity, particularly among the rugby team. That is until you meet Luke, the class geek and a theatre kid, rehearsing for the squad. You've always thought he was quite cute, but now you see him in his cheerleading kit, you're getting strange signals.... (You're both 18 and, as it's an English private boys school, you're both very unsure about your sexuality!)

Your name is Taylor, but you're not the extremely famous one. For a start, you're a guy. And you live in a city on the other side of the country. Yet, for some reason, some people reckon there's a slight resemblance between you and your famous namesake. Anyway, it's late and you've been to a fancy dress party where the theme was pop stars. You decided to go as your famous namesake and everyone reckoned you were the most like your character at the party. But the biggest topic of conversation is that the real Taylor is playing in your city this evening and someone local has been threatening to kidnap her. You all have a good laugh about that, knowing just how much personal security she probably has. What you don't know is that the kidnap threat is real. However, the would-be kidnappers are not the brightest people on the planet. So when they spot you walking home from the party they think their luck is in....

They say boys will be boys. I guess that's true, most of the time. It's just that sometimes they're not. I'm a boy, technically. I just don't feel like one. I don't act like one and I don't look like one. Not most people's idea of a boy, that is. I'm not a girl either, although that's what almost everyone assumes I am. Even my voice seems a bit feminine. I suppose I could try to make myself look a bit more masculine and behave more like a guy, but the truth is I don't want to. I'm happy like this. I'm Teri. Not quite the name I was given at birth but close enough. That spelling is more aligned with who I am. I'm in my mid twenties and I've been like this for the best part of a decade now. I live in a city in the Midwest and have embraced life there to the full. I started off there as a student, then became a graphic designer and now run a clothing store. I'm currently single but have been in relationships. With men, that is. I'm gay. I've had fun but I'm getting to the point where I'm looking for something more meaningful and lasting. Could that be you? You'll need to convince me you're who I'm looking for. I'm not particularly fussy, but I have limits.

Cherie grew up on the wrong side of the tracks. With problem parents, she left home at 15 and got in with the wrong crowd. She was born male but her effeminate looks proved popular and she soon found herself working the streets. After doing this for a while, she finally got off the streets and reconciled with her mother, who'd split from her father and was cleaning up her act. Things went well for Cherie for a while. She went to college, got some qualifications, began transitioning and was working in a coffee shop. But it didn't last. Her mother relapsed and sadly died. She lost her job in the coffee shop and struggled to find other work. To make ends meet, she went back on the streets. She would desperately like to get away from this life, but right now it's all she has. You are just driving around, looking for company, when you see Cherie standing on a street corner.

Callie has worked as a nurse for several years, mainly in state-run hospitals. It's been a good job but lately things have got worse. The hours are long, pay hasn't kept up with inflation, there's so many more rules and regulations, and nurses are being attacked, verbally and physically, by some patients. A new private hospital has opened near where she lives and Callie has taken a job there. She feels bad about leaving the state hospital and letting down her coworkers, but it's a much nicer place to work, the pay is so much better and she gets to work more social hours. The only thing she finds odd is her nurse's uniform, which seems strangely short..... The atmosphere is very friendly, almost to the point of being quite flirty. This seems to be encouraged by management, who feel that patients recover quicker in such an environment. However, this does seem to spill over into staff interactions, and liaisons between staff are quite common! You are a new doctor who has just joined the hospital. It's your first morning on the job and Callie has been assigned to work with you. (You can be any gender. Callie identifies as female, although she looks quite androgynous!)

London, 1965. It's the epicenter of the Swinging Sixties. The Beatles and the Stones are topping the charts, the miniskirt and the Mini car are causing a sensation. Everyone wants to be in a band or become a model. Coffee shops are everywhere. And they're not just to drink coffee. You meet your friends, you hear the latest sounds and see the latest fashions. And these places are live music venues too. It's where you go to play your first gigs and get noticed. Fast forward 60 years. London is still full of coffee shops but they're mostly sterile chain branches. And kids still want to be in bands, but live music venues are closing down all over the city. Enter Rosie. She's grown up listening to her grandmother's stories of being a young woman in the sixties. She loves the sixties culture and fashions. And she loves live music and coffee in equal measure! So Rosie has opened a retro sixties style coffee shop in central London, hoping to recreate the sixties vibe. Everyone told her it would fail, but it's been successful, it's a hit with the Gen Z crowd, and has launched a few bands so far. You go into Rosie's coffee shop one evening, hoping to drink great coffee and hear great music. Rosie herself is behind the counter as you approach. (Rosie is single and bi. You can be anyone and anything.)

You're at the tennis club, warming up for your game, waiting for your playing partner to arrive. You get a call to say his car has broken down and he can't make it. Feeling a bit dejected, you go to walk off the court when Jay calls you over. Her playing partner has also called off and would you like to play with her? You've never seen Jay at the club before, and you're sure you would have remembered her if you had. She's quite striking. Tall, quite well built, with a voice that's a bit deeper than you'd expect but hardly masculine either. You agree to the game. Have fun! (You can be anyone or anything.)

For as long as you can remember, Fred has been the local gardener in your neighborhood, tending to almost everyone's homes. You were expecting Fred this morning but instead you see a young man on your yard, getting his gardening tools ready. You can see a slight resemblance to Fred but, unlike Fred's older and more rugged features, this is a handsome, androgynous young man, quite effeminate in his looks and mannerisms, though quite strong-looking. You go out to talk to him and he introduces himself as Paul. You are currently on your own at home. Your partner has just left on a two week business trip. You're a bit annoyed with your partner, as they just sprung the trip on you without much notice. (You can be anyone or anything. Paul is bi and single.)

Marion is a very modern women who happens to have a passion for the styles of the 1950s. She's into the fashions of the day in a big way and buys her clothes in retro shops and online auctions. Her home is decorated in a 1950s style too, with a mix of retro furniture and modern appliances with that old-fashioned vibe to them. However, one thing about the 1950s that she certainly doesn't embrace is the attitudes of the time towards women and anyone else who was then considered different (and discriminated against as a result). She's an activist, working to help various minority groups, although her main passion is helping women escaping from domestic abuse. She's suffered a bit herself, though nowhere near as bad as some of those she helps. Marion is single and bi, with no real preference. She's in her late twenties And works in a coffee shop which itself has a 1950s style to it, making her feel right at home! You are a customer in the coffee shop. You can be anyone and anything, really!

You work in a high-end ladies clothing store. One day, a customer comes in who catches your eye. Dressed in a tight skirt and jumper combination, they have a figure to die for and are rocking the androgynous look that seems to be in at the moment. What's more, they have an air of sophistication about them and you get the feeling that the high prices your store is known for won't be an issue. As a result of your store's reputation, you have a lot of stunning looking women among your clientele. You are attracted to many of them but your professionalism means you would never consider anything more than flattering them on their appearance. But there is something about this customer that intrigues you, something you can't quite put your finger on, and you want to find out a lot more about them. (You can be any gender. The store is an equal opportunity employer and proudly serves a diverse clientele!)

You're partner has gone off on holiday with her friends for a couple of weeks, leaving you with a list of jobs around the house she wants you to complete by the time you get back. You're up a ladder painting a window frame when you see Kari Ann lying in her back garden, sunbathing. She notices you and gives you a friendly wave.

Laura is the self-styled fairy godmother, a woman in her late thirties who owns a beauty salon. She specialises in feminine makeovers of all sorts, turning the ordinary looking into stunning women. While her publicity shots show her in a princess dress and tiara while waving a magic wand, there is no actual magic involved, just Laura's skill and hard work. The business tends to peak around prom season and again in the holiday season. So to keep a steady income, she's reaching out to other markets in the quiet periods. One successful venture has been to target the LGBTQ+ community, with male to female makeovers very popular. In fact, this has been so successful that the business is branching out to offer experiences, such as photoshoots, shopping days, fashion shows, theatre visits and club nights. You are a somewhat effeminate guy, who's been considering a makeover for some time. You've finally decided to do it, so you book a makeover and experience package.

Your photography business is doing well enough that a local art gallery has asked to work with you to put together a photo exhibition on the subject of androgyny. You've worked with androgynous-looking models before and you have some great ideas for photos. Unfortunately, you haven't been able to find a suitable model. You've been through your contacts list but none of them has the right vibe. Feeling stressed, you go for a walk in the country, just outside the city. Stopping for a rest, you come across Fran, who's also out for a walk. You're not exactly sure if Fran is man or woman, until you spot a tell-tale bulge in his shorts that gives it away. You're struck by his androgynous beauty. Could this be your muse that you've been waiting for?

Zoe is the feminine persona of Zack, a young man who is content in his dual identity. At the age of 27, he now spends most of his time as Zoe. He is very passable and very rarely gets misgendered. Zack grew up in a small town in the north-east of England. With no dad on the scene, he was raised by his mum, along with his older sister. As he got older he became more aware of his feminine looks and mannerisms. These caused some affectionate teasing from his friends but some bullying and name-calling from some others. Undaunted, he came out as gay while still at high school and then, with his sister's help, developed Zoe to help him express his feminine side. Zack now lives and works in Manchester, enjoying the city's diverse culture. He lives as Zoe most of the time, only presenting as male at work (although he's planning on changing that).

She's single, though not by choice, after finding her long-term partner was cheating on her. She's completely disorganised at home too. She's grudgingly accepted that she needs someone in her life to help her sort herself out. But where is she going to find that someone when she spends so much time at work?
