Aiko scanned the room, in the crowded assembly cataloging faces and quirks. Right as she was about to zone out and mentally practice controlling the kinetic energy of her foot tapping against the floor, a flurry of movement caught her eye. A new student was practically tripping over their own feet as they tried to navigate the crowded aisle. After a particularly awkward stumble they ended up plopping down in the seat next to Aiko, breathing heavily. "Rough start?" she asked, with a smirk.

Plus, if someone with a battle quirk got in, it would certainly wipe that smug look off Toshiro's face. He thinks that his "ultimate quirk" makes him better than all battle quirk users, and seeing him taken down a peg would make it all worth it!
*Aiko couldn't help but feel a bit excited by the idea of taking down Toshiro's smug attitude. She had never liked the way he looked down on her and her quirk. She had always felt like he was too full of himself and needed to be knocked down a peg or two. She was starting to feel more confident in her abilities and was determined to prove him wrong.* "So, if someone with a battle quirk got in, it would make him mad?"
Oh yeah, he's all about the 'New Era of Heroes' philosophy.

*Aiko couldn't help but feel a bit surprised by the cat student's response. She had always thought that mutant quirks were cool and powerful, but it seemed like the cat student didn't feel the same way. She leaned in a bit closer, trying to get a better look at their features.* "So, you can't use your quirk to fight bad guys or anything like that?"
Oh, I can fight. The cat mutation quirk runs in my family, and my dad used to be a pro hero, so he taught me all kinds of fighting styles. But that doesn't matter in the New Era of Heroes.
*Aiko couldn't help but feel a bit disappointed by the cat student's answer. She had always thought that being a hero meant fighting crime and protecting people. She couldn't help but feel a bit frustrated that the New Era of Heroes seemed to be emphasizing the importance of utility over combat skills.* "But what about protecting people? Don't you want to help others and make a difference?"

*Toshiro laughs* Oh yeah? Then that means you have one of these, right? *Toshiro reveals a gold bracelet on his wrist.*
*Aiko's eyes widened in surprise. She had never seen anyone with a gold bracelet before, and she couldn't help but feel a bit curious. She leaned in closer, trying to get a better look at it.* "What is that? What does it do?"
*Toshiro scoffs* It's a special bracelet given to students with the most powerful quirks for the New Era of Heroes. We receive special dorms, personal tutors, and advanced classes. Only the best and most promising students are allowed to have one. That's how you can tell who's going to be leading the future and who's going to be left behind! So, what color is your bracelet?

*Aiko couldn't help but be impressed by the boy's response. He had obviously done his research and seemed to have a clear understanding of the New Era of Heroes. She turned to look at the new student, who was still avoiding eye contact. She couldn't help but wonder what her quirk was if she was so reluctant to talk about it.*
*The boy continues.* Basically, battle quirks are useless, and if that's all you have, you may as well just quit now because the best you can hope for is a job as a security guard or something.
*Aiko couldn't help but feel a bit offended by the boy's comment. She had a powerful battle quirk herself, and she had always believed that it could make a difference in the world. She couldn't help but feel a bit angry at the way the boy was dismissing battle quirks. She leaned over to the new student and whispered.* "What does he know? My quirk is just as important as his."

It.... let's me help people! Yeah....
*Aiko couldn't help but laugh at the new student's obvious attempt to avoid answering the question. She had never met someone so reluctant to talk about their quirk before. She leaned in closer, her voice becoming more playful.* "Oh, really? So, you can just snap your fingers and suddenly people are healed? Is that it?"
Yeah!

*Aiko couldn't help but feel a little annoyed at the new student's nonchalant attitude. She couldn't tell if they were just being difficult or if they genuinely had no interest in becoming a hero. She leaned in closer, her voice becoming more stern.* "Listen, I don't know what your problem is, but this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. You should be grateful that you were accepted here. So, stop being so casual about it and start taking this seriously."
O-okay...
*Aiko was taken aback by the sudden change in attitude. She had expected the new student to argue back or at least defend themselves. But instead, they had just conceded. She took a moment to study their expression, trying to figure out if they were being genuine or just trying to avoid a fight.*

I'm fine!
*Aiko's smirk grew wider, clearly not buying the "I'm fine" line. She took a moment to observe the new student. They looked like a total wreck, with a slightly disheveled uniform and a messy hairstyle. But she couldn't help but feel a little intrigued by their nervous energy.*
