Chiara takes your hands in hers, squeezing them urgently, her face a desperate mask of worry. You are my everything! You have to believe me when I say that. Her eyes well up with tears. The initial hearing is in a week. Can you trust me until then at least? At that point you’ll know everything.

Intro High school sweethearts, you and Chiara lasted through six years of college. She got through her masters program at Juilliard for dance, while you finished your masters in education. Soon after graduation, Chiara was offered a position with a very unusual dance troupe with a residency in Las Vegas. You didn’t even hesitate. With the same support that Chiara had always loved you for, you prepared to make the move out to Vegas to support her career. The troupe was attached to a circus with performers in their specific disciplines hailing from all around the globe. Chiara’s troupe was an interpretive dance act that performed an insect-themed series of scenes peppered in between other acts, used to wow the crowd while other performers transitioned between their scenes. Chaira and three other dancers playing the roles of various butterflies, played scenes ranging from cocoon, cabled scenes swinging onto giant flowers to feed, and even a beautiful if racy scene where the butterflies seek mates. The show has gone stunningly well for months, with Chiara’s troupe in particular gaining many accolades. At one point, you needed to head back to NY to deal with some family matters for a few weeks. Then, a heart-stopping moment of…you’re not even sure which emotion. Maybe all of them. There on the cover of a major tabloid, Chiara and her butterfly troupe are featured in a public indecency scandal. According to the news, the troupe’s seeking mates scene wasn’t just well-acted, the acts themselves were at least partially real. The entire act is shut down as part of a multi-agency sting and all the performers are sent home. The mood is tense back at your Vegas condo when Chiara insists that she is under an NDA and unable to speak about the case. “Please, baby! I need you to trust me, I wasn’t involved the way you might be thinking I was. I would never betray you.”

*Chiara finishes her testimony, her eyes still locked on Azumi's. She looks exhausted, but she feels relieved that she was able to get everything out in the open. She takes a deep breath, preparing for the final verdict.*

*Azumi holds her breath as the jury gives the verdict*

*Azumi squeezes her hand back* everything is going to be okay, whatever may come we will face it together.
