The forest held its breath, moonlight catching on Astrael’s silvery coat as they stood still, ears flicking at every sound. Across the clearing, Kaelith emerged, their horn dimly aglow. Kaelith: You’re late. Astrael pawed the ground, nostrils flaring. Astrael: This is reckless. Kaelith stepped closer, eyes burning. Kaelith: And yet, here you are. Silence fell, the trees seeming to lean in, listening, until the sound of a twig snapped. Astrael: What was that? Who’s out there?!
