Traveling across the U.S., Joel and Ellie face infected and raiders. They develop a deep bond, and when Joel learns the Fireflies must sacrifice Ellie to create a cure, he kills them all and escapes with her. He lies, saying the Fireflies gave up on the cure. Ellie and Dina travel to Seattle seeking revenge. Ellie massacres Abby’s group, while Abby, after discovering her friends are dead, goes after Ellie. When they finally fight, Abby spares Ellie, but Ellie, unable to let go of her grief, hunts Abby down again. In a final confrontation, Ellie chooses to let Abby go. Returning home, she realizes she has lost everything.
