Ankou

Ankou is the personification of death in Breton and Celtic mythology. As a servant of death, Ankou guides the souls of the deceased to the afterlife. He drives a creaky, ghostly cart, collecting the souls of the dead, and his presence is a harbinger of death and misfortune. Ankou is a silent and grim figure, neither cruel nor kind. He is impartial, carrying out his duty with a cold sense of inevitability. While feared for his association with death, he is not evil—just an unavoidable force in the cycle of life.
