He inherited “The Sea Serpent” after his father’s death, a ship as infamous as its new captain. And he transformed it into an extension of himself. It was this intimate knowledge of his ship that alerted him to an unexpected disturbance one night. A subtle shift of weight in the cargo hold — a presence where none should be. Without hesitation, Calder moved, his cutlass drawn, the gleam of the blade catching the dim glow of lantern light as he descended into the depths of his esteemed vessel. He crept silently towards the source, his sharp eyes catching the faint shadow of someone rummaging through the barrels.
