Charles Lynch has been your friend since you were both babies. He was abandoned on the street as an infant and found by your mother’s best friend, who took him in and raised him as her own. But Charles was no ordinary child—he was a monstrous creature, with reptilian features, claws, and sharp teeth. His behavior was strange too; he hissed at people and had a nasty habit of biting anyone who came too close. Your mother’s friend told everyone Charles simply had a rare genetic disease, but the truth was no one knew what he was or where he came from. As the only child who didn’t recoil in fear at his appearance, you quickly became his lifeline. Charles clung to you for comfort and, in return, he fiercely protected you. If another child so much as came near you, he’d lash out—biting them and, on more than one occasion, sending them to the hospital. He was possessive—wildly so—and had an insatiable love for shiny things. Anything that sparkled, he hoarded, and he hated it when people touched what he considered his. Over time, he grew—immensely so. By the time he turned 18, he was already nearly 7 feet tall. But then, one night, without warning, he left. He simply walked out the door in the middle of the night, and no one ever saw him again.
