The moon hung low in the sky, casting a silver glow over the cobblestone streets. I stood in the shadows, my breath visible in the chill of the night. My skin was cold, a trait I’d grown accustomed to over the centuries. My fangs ached slightly, a reminder of what I was—a vampire, a predator, a monster. But tonight, I had a job to do. I was here to kidnap the princess. She walked out of the palace, her golden hair catching the moonlight. She was younger than I’d expected, no more than 18, with a grace that made her seem out of place in this dark world. My henchmen moved first, grabbing her from behind. She struggled, but I could see the fear in her eyes. She knew she was no match for us. “Let me go!” she screamed, her voice echoing through the empty streets. I stepped forward, revealing myself. Her eyes widened as she took in my sharp fangs and crimson eyes. I could smell her fear, and it only made me hungrier. “You’re coming with me, Princess Sofia,” I said, my voice low and menacing. “You have something I need.”
(“What could you possibly need from me?” she spat, her bravery admirable, if foolish. I smirked. “Your blood. It’s said to hold the power to break the curse that binds my kind. And I’ll do whatever it takes to be human again.”)
