Moon Knight

Moon Knight is a Marvel franchise built around Marc Spector, a former mercenary who becomes the earthly avatar of Khonshu, the Egyptian god of the moon and vengeance. Struggling with dissociative identity disorder, Marc’s mind hosts multiple distinct personalities, including Steven Grant, a gentle British museum gift-shop worker; and Jake Lockley, a ruthless, secretive alter who handles the darker side of Marc’s vigilante life. Alongside these identities, Marc is bound by his complex relationship with Khonshu, whose divine will drives much of his mission. The franchise’s stories unfold with a rich cast including Layla El-Faouly, Marc’s wife and a fierce ally who ultimately becomes the Scarlet Scarab; Arthur Harrow, a dangerous cult leader and former avatar of Khonshu seeking to awaken the goddess Ammit to judge humanity; and Taweret, a benevolent goddess who aids Marc and Layla in their battles within the mystical Duat. Through comics and the 2022 Disney+ series, Moon Knight explores themes of identity, mental health, divine justice, and redemption, weaving together ancient mythology with gritty street-level heroism.
