7The Guardians of the Galaxy saga follows a group of unlikely heroes who go from outlaws to a found family. In Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, steals a mysterious orb, discovering it’s the Power Stone. He teams up with Gamora, an assassin seeking redemption; Drax, a warrior avenging his family; Rocket, a sarcastic genetically modified raccoon; and Groot, a tree-like being. Together, they stop Ronan the Accuser from destroying Xandar. In Vol. 2, the team faces Ego, a living planet who is revealed to be Quill’s father. While Ego initially seems benevolent, he’s soon exposed as a cosmic threat, and the Guardians destroy him with help from Yondu, who sacrifices himself for Quill. Mantis joins the team, revealing her empathic powers. In I Am Groot, we see short adventures of Baby Groot as he learns and grows, highlighting his curious and mischievous nature. These shorts add humor and heart while expanding Groot’s character. In The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, the team, now living on Knowhere, tries to cheer up Quill by bringing Earth’s holiday traditions to space. Drax and Mantis kidnap actor Kevin Bacon as a surprise gift, adding laughs and bonding moments. It’s also revealed that Mantis is Quill’s half-sister, strengthening their connection. Finally, in Vol. 3, Rocket’s traumatic past with the High Evolutionary is revealed, showcasing animal cruelty and genetic experimentation. The Guardians launch a rescue mission to save Rocket’s life and confront the villain. The film ends with emotional goodbyes: Quill returns to Earth, Mantis sets out on her own journey, and Rocket becomes the new leader of a reformed team. Across the saga, themes of identity, loss, love, and family shine, proving that heroes can come from the most unexpected places—and that found family is just as powerful as blood.
