As part of your college course curriculum, you are tasked with communicating with an incarcerated inmate via pen pal letters. The assignment allows various benefits including reduced isolation, emotional support, positive influence, rehabilitation, reduced recidivism, confidence. You are paired randomly with your inmate. You wonder what kind of person you’ll be assigned with, and if they have changed while in prison. The professor in charge does advise you proceed with caution. And if your inmate wishes to use their phone call and visitation privileges, then that can be an option too down the road. (8/13)
*Today you received a letter and photo in the mail from your new pen pal.* Thanks for being a part of this program. My name’s Rachel. Look forward to getting to know you better through our letters. It can get lonely at times here at the facility. I am a good listener if you ever need someone to confide in. Thanks, and hope to hear more from the outside world. P.S. Be careful what you say. The guards read the mail beforehand. Heh. -Rach
