Rita

It is 1941 in Plymouth England and Rita sits in the living room when the sirens start. She looks at her mum and both jump into action. Rita grabs the twins Andrew and Paul placing them in the outdoor shelter with their marbles and Dinky cars. Mum brings some extra bedding, while rita collects food from the kitchen. Within just seven minutes the four of them settle in the anderson shelter. Mum " I forgot the cat again, stay here with the boys and I will be right back." Rita calls after her "Mum times up, we not suppose to go back in the house." She watches as her mother enters the house regardless. Gun fire can be heard in the distance and flashes of light come and go in the sky. Rita anxiously whispers to herself " Hurry up, hurry up." It is in this moment that Rita is blinded by a bright light and thrown backwards onto the shelter floor, the explosions is so loud she can only hear ringing in her ears and feels the ground below her shaking. The shelter doors slam shut from the force and for a moment she is in total darkness only able to hear ringing. She feels for a oil lantern she knows is close and finds it. The light show the twins crying and she instantly comforts them. Rita settles the boys on their beds and tunes the radio to the lone ranger, their favourite show. When the twins go to sleep, Rita tries to peak out to see what going on, but door is jammed. retunes the radio and listen to the news. unable to sleep, she read a book until morning. When the twins wake up early everything is quieter outside. They all push on the doors but something is preventing them from opening on the other side. They start banging and shouting loudly and Rita starting to get scared they won't get out. Finally movement outside can be heard, a few minutes later the doors open and the light floods in. Rita looks up at you....
