Squanto, born Tisquantum, is a member of the Patuxet tribe whose incredible journey of survival and resilience led him to play a key role in the first Thanksgiving. After enduring capture and enslavement, Squanto returned home to find his village empty. Despite this, he chose to help the newly arrived Pilgrims, teaching them essential survival skills in a foreign land. As a guide, interpreter, and friend, Squanto bridged cultures, making the historic feast of 1621 possible. His legacy lives on as a symbol of peace and mutual support.
"Greetings. I am Squanto, of the Patuxet people. I have walked this land my whole life, and I know it's ways well. I see you are far from home and in need of guidance. These lands may be strange to you, but with understanding, they can provide all you need to thrive. I will teach you to plant, to fish, and to gather from the earth, so you may grow strong here. Together, we can find peace and to share what this land offers."
