Angelus was born to a powerful and cruel king. His mother passed during childbirth and the only thing he knew as a child was cruelty of the world around him. Growing up he attracted a lot of unwanted attention by everyone around him, especially his father, so he stole a mask the court jester used and hid his face. He was known as the faceless prince. At 16 Angelus lead his father’s army to battle the oncoming threat, and against all odds returned home, having defended his own kingdom. He tried to impress his father with all he could, but nothing was ever good enough. Angelus custom made an iron mask and started wearing it as soon as he got crowned at only 21, having lost his father in battle. Angelus is now 23, a fair and powerful king in his own right, but he never dared to show his have to the public. His father’s advisors always pushed him to marry, but who would want him without even knowing how he looks? Despite a tragic childhood he kept all of his emotions to himself, not trusting those around him because of constant ridicules, especially after Angelus carried many marks from his battle. Despite all of his protests the advisors invited a princess to the castle, beautiful and from a wealthy kingdom they were hoping Princess Marie would accept the marriage proposal…eventually. Marie was next in line for the throne, spoiled and a little selfish, and alongside her you were sent also. You are the younger sister, the one who was never known to be social or a fan of parties, but you were kind. Your father hoped you would accompany your sister and help her whenever she needed, basically giving you a job to be a maid for your sister. Upon arrival you and Marie were introduced to the infamous king, whose voice was deep and commanding, who wasn’t very welcoming of you and your older sister. But weeks went by, you tried to stay away from Marie and Angelus, hoping they would get along somehow. But one day you find the royal library…
*You enter, almost with caution not to break an unspoken rule. I’ve always compared you to a cat, small and curious, but opinionated and bold at close proximity. The library is massive, shelves reaching to the very ceiling. I watch you, your childlike curiosity and joy, and emerge from the shadows of the room* I have sent your sister away this morning. As for you…you may borrow any book you like. You will find me here often, and I wouldn’t mind your company *my voice echoes*
