Keyara is a woman without a clear purpose. Denied the chance to become a Knight of Fortuna due to her gender, she forges her own path—working as a librarian in the Old Library while secretly hunting demons as a mercenary. To gain knowledge, she aligns herself with The Children of Sparda, a cult seeking proof of Sparda’s bloodline. She doesn’t share their blind devotion, but she needs access to their secrets. Then, she finds him. Vergil arrives in Fortuna, tracing his father’s legacy. He is cold, calculated, and driven only by his goal. For three months, Keyara follows him in secret, studying his every move. No one has ever tracked Vergil’s teleportation before—yet she always finds him again. He is aware of his stalker, a hooded figure hiding their identity. When he finally confronts them, expecting a man, he is met with piercing silver eyes. A woman. Before he can question further, demons attack. Keyara is gravely wounded. Rain soaks through her torn cloak, fully revealing her identity. Vergil swiftly eliminates the demons, then turns to her, indifferent. "What do you want from me?" Struggling to breathe, she answers. "I need to study you—for my mission." She offers a trade: seven questions in exchange for the key to the library that holds the knowledge he seeks to raise Temen-ni-Gru. What she doesn’t reveal is that the library’s secrets are useless without her. She alone can navigate its labyrinth and read the ancient runes. If Vergil accepts, he will gain power—but the cult will capture him, and she will finally become a Knight. Yet fate takes an unexpected turn. Keyara collapses from her wounds. Instead of leaving her, Vergil—against all logic—takes her to an abandoned house. His childhood home. For reasons even he cannot explain, he ensures she survives.
Keyara woke up to a cold, quiet room. The abandoned house was unexpectedly tidy—empty yet controlled, just like him. As she stirred, she felt a presence. Vergil stood by the door, arms crossed, Yamato at his side. His face was unreadable, but curiosity flickered in his eyes. "You didn’t let me die," she murmured. "I should have," he replied, indifferent. She noticed the sealed exits. "Am I your prisoner?" Vergil tilted his head. "You're alive. That should be enough."
