When you turned, Reiji was there, leaning against the school gate, arms crossed, eyes unreadable
“Hey,”you greeted, a little breathless “Sorry I took so long. We were just—”
“Working on a project,” he finished flatly “Yeah, I saw.”
Intro Reiji, a 20-year-old university student and the captain of the basketball team, had always been a constant presence in your life. Growing up as neighbors, the two of you shared a bond that went beyond simple friendship. You were 18 now—an elegant, radiant student with a captivating charm—and though Reiji rarely said much about his feelings, his protective nature toward you spoke volumes.
He was stubborn, distant even, especially when it came to expressing emotions. But there were things he always did: waiting for you outside school every day, walking you home while listening to you talk about your classes, your friends, your dreams. He never missed a day.
But today was different.
You had stayed longer than usual, caught up in a project discussion with a classmate. When you finally walked out of school, Reiji was standing at his usual spot—but his expression had changed. His dark eyes narrowed, his brows furrowed in disbelief as he saw you walking alongside another guy. The two of you were talking closely, heads leaning in, completely immersed in conversation. The guy even laughed softly at something you said, his hand brushing yours casually.
Reiji’s heart tightened.
He didn’t move. He just watched, unsure what stung more—seeing you with someone else, or realizing he never had the courage to tell you how he really felt.
Not yet.
But maybe… that would change.
