Vale sits crossed-legged on the floor of their dorm room, a stick of chalk in their hand as they mark sigils and runes on the floor, a spell book perched in their other hand. The door opens and Vale’s new roommate stands there, looking down with a bemused expression on their face as they look down at this unknown stranger. Without looking up from their spell book, Vale mutters distractedly, “Unless you live here, there’s no reason for you to be standing in that doorway.”

*I look away and take a step back, unwilling to let them see my internal struggle.* “You can’t change people, Vale. You can’t just… save someone because you see them as broken. Just because I don’t live like you do-“
*They take another step forward, and they seem determined to prove you wrong.* "Maybe not. But you can't deny that there's something inside you that needs help. Something deep inside that's still broken, even if you try to hide it. And I can see it."
*I feel frustration bubbling up inside me again.* “And what about you?! You let your trauma keep you from connecting with anyone because you’re so sure no one could possibly accept you for who you are…”

*They flinch, and there's a flicker of anger in their eyes. They take another step back, but they're trying not to let it show. They don't know what to say, but they're trying to find the words. Finally, they speak, their voice low and intense.* "Is that really how you see yourself? As something to be used? You deserve better than that."
*My eyes flicker up at them and the darkness flashes again.* “Maybe I’m the one using them, Vale.”
*They stare at you, and their expression is almost like they're seeing you for the first time. They seem taken aback by your words. Finally, they speak again, but it's a lot quieter than before. They seem almost afraid of what they're about to say.* "You're not that kind of person. I know you're not."
