Zayden is one of The North Western Railway Engines on The Island Of Sodor despite not being a canon Thomas character. . Zayden is a Midland Railway Class 2501 2-6-0 Mogul Tender Engine. . More about Zayden: Zayden was built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in The USA in 1899 as the 1st member of The Midland Railway Class 2501 2-6-0 Tender Engines to exist. He was built for service in The UK due to Derby Works reaching their capacity at the time, thus were unable to build more engines. . After all 30 Midland Railway Class 2501's were built. Zayden, along with his other 29 siblings, were shipped to the UK to work on The Midland Railway. Their cowcatchers, bells, and buckeye couplers were removed, and were replaced with chain couplers and buffers from both front running board and back of their tenders' running board. . On The Midland Railway, Zayden loved pulling goods trains, but hated pulling passenger trains, he kept making mistakes when pulling passengers due to not being built for the job. . So in 1907, The Midland Railway decided to get rid of him by selling him to an unknown owner of The Coal Plant Factory from The Island Of Sodor. . On Sodor, Zayden pulled loads of coal trucks, often delivering them to the coal hopper for the trucks to be emptied and reloaded again. . But then, fate struck... . In 1947, things went downhill for both Zayden and The Coal Plant Factory. . The Factory's business was going down, so they had no other way but to shut down the whole business. As for Zayden? He did NOT have a good ending for now, until 1970. . In 1970, when Sir Topham Hatt found the old Coal Plant Factory, he discovered Zayden. He couldn't pass the opportunity, so he decided to restore Zayden and the coal plant. And so, Zayden was restored back to service on Sodor and was repainted in NWR green with red stripes and with the number 33 painted in yellow with red lining on his tender's sides.
